tenmile
SmartCar, 453,.353 2016 ForTwo Passion Turbo 898CC L3 Turbocharged The brake light switch failed on car, which give several errors. I ordered a new switch, PN 4535453300. Installed new switch and as soon as car was started had errors again. The switch came with not installation instructions and the service manual does not have any instructions as to adjusting length of switch. I took switch apart and shorted the length of the plastic that contacts the brake pedal. Started car with no errors and ran a diagnostic checks with my analyzer, no errors. I took the old brake switch apart, cleaned the electrical contacts, and adjusted the length, it how works also with not errors. My question is should switch required adjustment? Is there a pad missing on brake pedal that would change how far switch moves in and out? I can not find anything on line that matched my issue for a common failure. Thank you for any ideas I'm at a stuck on this one
Avenge95
Welcome! Not sure if this will help much, but Evilution has a short write up regarding the brake light switch, and a video on how it's removed. Maybe that will help? https://www.evilution.co.uk/mod/453-brake-light-switch-removal.htm
tenmile
Thank you Avenge95, it does help. I see not spacers on brake switch as it contact the brake pedal arm. The removal and installation are very straight forward. I guessing something is bent or broke on brake pedal arm that would cause my issue. Going to take my inspection camera a look at contact point on brake pedal arm. There are two contacts inside the switch one is normally closed and the other is normally open, both go the the computers so I also can check it that they are getting the correct voltage change. Willys
Welcome to the site, Evilution is a great library of information and is well worth the small donation he asks for it. IMHO.....once you have learned all you need then stop donating....far cheaper than buying manuals etc, which aren't available I'm sure. Again welcome to the site and club.
