smart142
I recently visited the local dealer to get some clips for my smart car. The yellow clip that is used to hold up the belly pan - $6.96 The screw that goes into that clip - $4.92 The clip that holds the rear dog leg panel to the body - $5.52 Am i wrong in thinking those prices are outrageous!!!!
Avenge95
For pricing from a dealer, that doesn't sound too bad. (yes it should be cheaper) An example of outrageous, is Paccar wants $10.00 for 1 single high temp ZIPTIE. It is blue, so maybe your paying for the color? haha
Nigel
They are. I bet you gave away hundreds of dollars in used clips and screws over the years. Nigel
Willys
LOL....I have also paid this insane price for the very same items......and then removing the subframe just recently accidently snapped the same frig'in clasps !!!!! The screws used to go into the clasps are a specific thickness and using normal screws you split the clasp....again ask me how i know....augh!!!! Again some items are semi reasonable at the stealership and the rest are out to lunch! But you must check because you never know if the next part you need will be cheaper at said stealership which does happen from time to time! MikeT
This stuff is generally half price in Europe, still not cheap though.
tolsen
The yellow tree nail clip part number A0009982285 costs about GBP 1 each here. Screws about same but I do not recommend those and use stainless steel screws with wide stainless steel washer instead. Mine are Torx security screws 8x1” and 8x1 1/2” button head costing less than GBP 0.2 each plus price of washer. Makes it harder for thieves to steal my beloved belly pan. wagonwheel
I use Zip ties. Nothing else is better for me. Just curve them and pull to tighten. Cut them to release.

I am going to try this as every time I use my floor jack I seem to snap these yellow clips etc. I have hundreds of zip ties....lol. Has anyone run their cars without their belly pans and if so how did it turn out? Good or a bad idea..? Just thinking out loud again...lol. Mjolinor
Both of mine have no plastic sheets. I have been running one for five years and the other for two. Presumably they reduce MPG when they are missing but it is certainly easier to do stuff under there. Things will deteriorate more quickly but I do not see any sign of that happening. Willys
I'm sure they are there solely to help increase the fuel efficiency......there isn't that much under our car to rot away. They also make the car a far better toboggan after sliding off a snowy road...lol. No, I haven't had the fun yet...lol.
wagonwheel
I find the belly pans are good to deflect the winter salt slush, but also to keep it hidden there!
