Smartz RIP

This site will stay active as long as the more experienced members help freely the new members repair their cars and advise them, imho.
Yes this site has slowed down over the summer months as we all have other issues etc to deal with or summer vacations etc, but I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon.
Just my bent nickle's worth...lol.

I can still remember the waiting list for the first couple of years in Canada.

It's the circle of life of all cars with character.

The first buyers were keeners....I for example was on a waiting list between summer 2002 and the very start of 2005 before mine came in. We were all doing road trips together, it was great.

We are now in the "malaise" era of the use car cycle, where the typical buyer of a smart diesel (especially) doesn't see it as anything other than a cheap POS to be run into the ground and then scrapped.

The few survivors that make it to 25 years and beyond - I'm going to guess at most 2000 cars in decent running condition, of the over 10,000 sold - may be rediscovered by collectors of oddball vehicles and some will be cherished. As they approach age 30, they may actually begin to gain in collector value. In 2031 mine will become eligible for collector plates and that's what I'm going to do. It will have well over 250,000 km by then.

Eddy, if you still have a good stock of BRABUS and other good parts for them, your place will be even more of a smart-Mecca than it was in the old days!

Looking back when I took Rommie off the road on 2013 for a cleanup / modifications and still working on her to the present day. Not as fast as I want it go though but I'm not going stop. But what is still nice to see and hear younger generation still pointing ,waving and positive comments as I drive by with the brabus.

Like Mike T i put a down payment on a smart back in 2002. When I finally received mine back in Dec 2004 it became my daily driver. and remains so to this day.

I have driven smart cars to BC, Florida, and Newfoundland in Feb.   I still love driving them.

Last August I was able to buy a highly modified smart with only 38,000 kms. It should be remembered that I have parted out half a dozen smarts so I should be able to keep my smart on the road for many years to come.

I'm in it for the long haul :D

We have a small collection on hand. And always buying close out inventories from dealers around the world. There are over 10 cars being parted at this moment. Many discontinued servicing parts are also in the works to be re-manufactured

I will try to support for as long as I can until full retirement. When that day comes. There will be a big open house garage sale. :)

Unlike Mike T and Smart142 (Glenn) I haven't been in it quite as long, but after acquiring my first smart (an '05 coupe) in 2007, I liked it so much that a year later, I got an '06 Cabrio.  The '05 is my winter-beater and the '06 is my summer transport.  Each is a daily driver during their own seasons.  My "big" car is a 4-door '89 Honda Civic for those rare times that I need to tow a trailer.
