I hate to beat a dead horse, but I'm just wondering if anyone else is playing around with ecu tuning anymore, I've read for days on all the tuning stuff I've found on here, which has been interesting. I ended up buying a mpps v13 installed a xp vm and pulled the factory tune off. I've fiddled around with the tune files I've found on here the last one I installed 365184.mod which livened the car up, I tried 365277.mod which was spicy until 5th gear of course. I thought about buying a Malone tune but not dealers in NB will touch it and flyingtiger being the other side of the country being why I never bought that either, plus kinda enjoy fiddling and seeing what this car can do

I'd be curious what the MPGs end up being like after you have found the tune you like....?   I am a mileage demanding driver now I have experienced how far it can go on a litre of fuel...lol.  But if it didn't kill the fuel economy too much I may be interested in looking at something else..?

I have a few ECU's sitting around, maybe I should drop one of your tunes into one and see what difference it makes with my wheel size etc...? Just thinking out loud again...lol.  I do not feel comfortable going after the original ECU tune I have in it at the moment as it isn't giving me any issues at all.  I know how to swap out ECU's but know nothing about tuning...?

I found pulling the tune easy, you need a mpps cable v12 to v16 I believe I got a v13 for 30 bucks on Amazon ( it uses obd2 port)and software. I created a small win XP vm with virtual box all free. And just make my PC connect that cable to the XP, pulling and sending the code is only a 4-5 min job. You should pull the original bin before doing anything, that way you can see what version you might be able to pull plus if you muck up, you can restore it.

What software do you use? Thats nice. I was thinking maybe mini vci j2534 cable could do the same? I have one.  Because kwp2000+ is impossible to buy (its outdated tool)

If its impossible with mini vci, then will need to buy mpps v13 also :)

the programming software is mpps, not sure if the vci would work. i think mpps looks for the hardware to make sure it matches, there are a lot of different tuner options. as for the tuning im trying to learn tunerpro but its taking a bit of a learning curve

So im not sure if anyone is really following this, or really cares too much about getting more performance out of the car. but ill atleast kinda document what ive gone through, so for my quest for more oomph out of the car, i was trying to figure out tunerpro but without a definition file for the smart you couldnt do anything, the one that sells the xdf file oldschooltuning was out for a bit so i got on to the tuning forms and ended up paying a guy for a "hand made tune" which no matter what i did wouldnt work, go figure. finaly was able to buy the xdf file ( he also sells a transmission xdf file which you can adjust the shifts and that ( i'm considering buying that as well) ) so i looked at the bought tune, fueling was all over the place, was requesting higher fuel rate than the car was allowed 1350 ( via tune) so then i started looking at a couple of old org bin files and saw what their fueling was, played the comparing game and made a new tune, removed the speed limiter, disabled the egr because why not and now fiddling with boost. i'm actually considering changing out the mechanical wastegate for an  electronic one but have to think on that one a bit as i dont believe it would be a simple swap but who knows. so with all my modifications to the tune im currently pulling 18.6psi of boost on the stock turbo.

some may think why would you do this? because i like to fiddle with things and see what they can do, yes there are faster things out there, ive always wanted an smart car and now that i have it, i plan to keep it, if i blow it up, then it just means i get to do something else i always wanted to do, stuff a motorcycle motor in one, which i happen to have a few of those sitting around that could make the smart car a bit more interesting.

Go here and read then ask.

Do not pay anyone for info, it is against the rules. Do not offer to pay for info either. If anyone asks for money then report them. <<< Just a warning.

I got one for my Smart450 petrol a good few years ago now and it was excellent. If you read properly you should find the thread.

Oh I did some reading on there, I had someone send me a tune on another forum for free which did work better than stock. And where I purchased the tune, the guy had lots of raving reviews for other diesels, I think the smart was just a bit too different for him to tune properly, I'm not bothered by it, made me learn something new, now I'm enjoying tweaking it

well i think ive tuned the car the best i can now, with the madness bluetooth pedal controller and the new tune i made, i also did the air inlet mod to smooth out air flow, it now maxes out at 158kmh gps speed ( no need to go that fast just wanted to see what i could get it to), i think  the final mods ill be doing is switching to rears all around and possibly going with 175/65r15 for a bit more cushion on the roads, that way i can rotate tires. its much nicer to drive than stock, getting about 410kms per tank which i dont find half bad, with all the mods it easily hums along at 120 in 6th and barely slips into 5th, compared to before it was dropping to 5th regularly. very happy with the car, plan to keep it for a long time
