Smart 450 cdi weird electrical problems

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm new here and I have a problem with my smart 450 cdi passion from 2004.

I have changed the waterpump and belts (lowered the waterpump side of the engine) and after that the problems started. Now if I put the ignition on and start the wipers for example, the engine starts and high beams are on. If I turn on the lights on any position, I only have high beams and the wipers are also on. Sometimes when I press the brake pedal high beams are flashing and if I'm driving and turning on wipers, the clutch is pressed I guess because it just revs and not going (in dash says A), after the wipers stop the car is driving normal.

I have checked all ground points, clean them, take SAM out and resolder almost everything, checked all the fuses and the plugs, left it with the battery disconnected, delete all the errors, unplug the wiper leaver and the turn signal one. In the engine bay nothing seems wrong.

The car is running good if I push the turn signal leaver back (high beam position) and not turn on lights or wipers. AC, electric windows, central locking, heated seats, stereo, gearbox, turn signals, trunk button, all working normal, no lights on the dash.

I don't know what to check next, maybe the SAM is bad? I should mention that I welded some nuts on the waterpump screws because they broke off but the battery was disconnected all this time. Any help will be wonderful!

First off, welcome to the new site.....is the car a CDi or gasoline...?  Or is that Petrol..?
You said you checked all your grounds, does that mean you took them all apart? Does your SAM have a good ground?  I haven't had a grounding issue with a SAM yet but when everything is acting like you say the only common thing is a ground. If it was anything else I bet you would see it in your SAM OR under dash as in a burned wiring harness that has shorted out?  Have you had your dash off yet and run your eyes over all the wires that control the things that have a mind of their own???  Maybe it's just as simple as a shorted harness that is jacketed and you can't see it? ETC...???

Again welcome to the site and hopefully we can help you figure out what is causing the issues....
