Littleharoldeh
Good day, so I have done some reading thru some old threads and still wanna just throw out the situation I got and see what comes of it. So got a 2006 diesel, 176000 km, since winter and mainly for sure this spring, generally when I first take off with my car it’ll drive a bit then get the dreaded 3 bars, usually I just restart and good to go. Rarely does it do it again until I sits awhile off and I take off again. I used my Delphi reader and I get P2402 - transmission blockage ; malfunction P2403 - gear cannot be engaged when clutch is closed P1925 - transmission position sensor noe these have been on here for I don’t know how long as I haven’t had my laptop to hook up for a couple months. so anything thoughts with this or does it have to go straight to Mercedes ? All in all car runs great for the most part, seems to take off kinda rough, not sure how to explain it but jerky on the initial take off in 1st also I’ve had for ages now my glow plug light stays on always and I also have permanent code P1482 glow output stage, open circuit bad glow plug or controller? What can I do to check thanks in advance for any help Edited July 4, 2024 by Littleharoldeh
Willys
Welcome to the site and forum....we have plenty of helpful folks here to try and solve your issues. First one the easiest imho, glow plugs, a known issue and they die usually before this age and mileage. You can test them using a volt meter, there is a thread here that tells you how to do this and what reading you should see. IF you don't get the correct reading then go after the glow plug controler , it's a black box on the righthand side of the sub frame with two harnesses going to it. Take it apart and clean the contact points etc. Mine were corroded and had arcing marks on them. A simple light sanding solves that. These cars are notorious for bad grounds, check every grounding pin you can find plus there is a large braided ground wire running from engine to body that usually disintergrates, again with your mileage. IF you need to remove or change your glow plugs make sure they are well lubed in penetrating fluids before attempting this. Also make sure engine is hot to help expand the block where the glow plugs sit. You can buy them cheap enough off amazon etc so no need to go to a dealer. The 3 bars, are they solid or flashing? I just went through the flashing bars and it turned out to be the transmission speed sensor wire. It had broken right at the plug connector. If solid then you may have a gear selector motor issue, or just a reteach may solve it? This also goes for your clutch actuator, it may require an adjustment and a re-teach. To do this correctly you'll need to find a Star diagnostic machine. Some of us bought one and you live close enough to the best electrical guru I know. He also does some repair work on smart cars and has many smart cars for possible good used parts...? Contact stickman007 here on the site. He lives just west of Edmonton and is a very honest and good person to deal with. But he is a busy man. He has the Star you require. You can adjust your clutch actuator yourself and reposition it firmly against the clutch fork arm and it will work just fine but a re-teach is the best way. Again it'll be worth the drive if you can't figure it out on your own. Again welcome to the site....
