mas
I do not know if it is the upcoming cold but Smarty Pants is acting up lately. This morning, after letting the glow plug light go out, no start then I noticed that it was in first. slapped it to the right to get in N, but it stayed in first. Cycled the stick between, R-N-1st, nothing. Key on/off, wait for the click. Nothing, Rocked the car (stuck in a gear) rolled a bit, same thing. I am looking at the actuator, removed 2 of the 3 bolts, stopped at the 3rd since it is starting to strip (rounded corners). Time for some advice on the next step. The last 45 minute drive was uneventful.
Willys
When you sat in the car did you press the brake peddle, yes I know a stupid question because we all do and are supposed to do, but sometimes we forget....? You're not alone...lol. As for the actuator bolts, get some heat on them before you snap it off, and force your hand drilling and tapping a new hole. Give the bolts a tap or two with a hammer to shock the corrosion off their threads, maybe that'll help also. Once you have them all out or repaired use never seize on the new bolts you install. This is a common issue and cleaning out the old threads using a tap and die set is the usual fix with new bolts. As for why it's stuck in a gear? Have you checked the wiring loom that goes to the gear select motor where it crosses the air scoop for the inter cooler? Some have rubbed through and caused issues there...your's??? Just a few suggestions....hope it helps.
smartnhappy
Saw a post where driver took off emerg brake, put car in 'neutral' and rocked it back and forth. Seemed to reestablish proper shift, but not a fix the trouble. This remedy my indicate a path to repair. ....Actually saw this on Facebook.
