Smart fortwo not starting

Recommended Posts

About 2 weeks ago me little car wouldn't start. Engine light on and diagnostic machine thing said it was a crankshaft sensor problem. Took it into garage they replaced the sensor and was starting every time. Last night tried starting up again and same problem is that it won't start. Coil light stays on and no cranking. Hear a couple of click and that's it. Battery is fine. Hit the starter with a hammer and still no good. Did find a puddle in the boot that is covering some wires bolted to boot metal. Could the water on these cables be the issue. Don't fancy taking back into garage. Can wait for it to dry proply before starting again. Any suggestions?

Petrol? No idea, but that water doesn't sound good. What is the "coil light"?

At a guess its a Diesel and the 'Coil Light' refers to the Glow Plug light?

Is it a Diesel or Petrol?  And which garage do you use?  I used to use the small indy in Crown & Anchor Way, just off Church Street. Now gone I believe.  Jarman & Son's in Exeter are pretty good.
