mas Posted June 22 Posted June 22 The 05 CDI has no brake lights, it had...The brakes lights used to work prior to the ABS/caution light coming on (which was associated with the using the hand brake, shifting and brake pedal). Now the brake lights do not work at all. Did the obvious, bulbs, fuse and brake switch. I am leaning toward a wire/connection/solder in the SAM. Can I just bypass the SAM by connecting the brake switch wire to piggyback fuse holder on an existing fuse in the fuse box? Or is there something more obvious that I am missing? Quote
Nigel Posted June 22 Posted June 22 It may not shift into gear if the Sam doesn’t see the brake signal. Quote
stickman007 Posted June 23 Posted June 23 The easiest way to narrow down the issue is to use an obd2 scanner to monitor the brake signal before digging into wires. There should be 2 brake signal - one is a N/C and the other is N/O (one of the ABS/TC and the other for the eBox). Quote
LooseLugNuts Posted June 23 Posted June 23 (edited) id suspect the switch,,,mostly based on your location ...water from my boots used to run down my brake pedal and get in my brakeswitch ....ice was also a problem in the winter...i used to soak a rag in antifreeze and squeeze it on the shaft so it would run down into the switch and prevent freezing ...i suspect your switch is probably dirty or corroded edit ...but now as i reread it appears you already changed the switch so id be guessing too... using a scan tool to see what the switch is doing is a good idea ... mas Posted June 25 Author Posted June 25 Follow up troubleshooting, I have 12V+ on both sides of the fuse with brake on and off. My obd2 reader is simply a code reader, I would need a more precise one, suggestions? I was thinking a grounding issue, I've read lately someone asking for all ground locations. Is that available? A question about Day running lights, do the rear top lights come on with the daytime running lights?. Mine are always on (rears) Lastly, does someone have the wiring diagram for the brake circuit? Thanks Quote
Nigel Posted June 25 Posted June 25 All the lights come on with the DRLs except the dash lights. Quote
LooseLugNuts Posted June 28 Posted June 28 i use a chinese thinktool mini ...but i wouldnt recommend it unless youll use it often ...ive seen cheap bluetooth dongle type scantools on amazon that use phone apps and can read a lot of live data...id suggest looking into one of those wiring diagrams for these cars are basically unobtanium..i dont remember ever seeing one ...if Tolsen doesnt have any id expect that evilution would be the only other choice Quote
LooseLugNuts Posted June 28 Posted June 28 pretty sure ive seen a pinout for the plugs on the fuse box once ...but i dont remember where if you could find that you could at least verify a brake signal is leaving the sam.. do the signal lights work?...i remember one time i had brake light issues on a non-smart car and the problem ending up being the signal stalk ... stickman007 Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Once the signal has been confirmed at the SAM - via a scanner. The next point to check is the Canadian eBox. Most of the exterior lighting goes through the eBox unlike our European counterparts. Quote
LooseLugNuts Posted June 29 Posted June 29 forgot about that thing... in case Mas doesnt know what the ebox is ..if i remember right it was a metal box containing an added circuit board and was mounted near the battery but a lot of owners had moved it up toward the front of the shifter console to minimize corrosion problems while your in the battery area might as well go after that other problem...the white connector toward the front of the battery that corrodes and makes the little dash master lock area pod lights stay on ...just cut it out and solder the wires directly Quote
LooseLugNuts Posted June 29 Posted June 29 just remembered where i seen the sam pin out >> https://www.fq101.co.uk/how-to-guides/fortwo-450/electrical/251-sam-wiring Quote
