colinmcc Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I just fitted a new battery in our 2005 Gen 1 Diesel Smart Car and was surprised to find a 110v female 3 pin outlet on a black cable under the dash in the same area. It looks like original equipment and the cable goes into a black smurf tube that then goes under the carpet and vanishes under the passenger seat. In all the years I've worked on the car I've never encountered a matching 3 pin plug anywhere, can anyone shed any light on this, is it 'factory' or a previous owner's add on? if 'factory' where is the male end and what was it fitted for? Thanks. Quote
MikeT Posted January 9 Posted January 9 It only works when the factory block heater cable is connected to household electricity. It's for an interior heater. Quote
colinmcc Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 I never knew it had a block heater! I've certainly never seen a 3 pin male lug lurking anywhere in the engine bay. Where would I find it? Thanks. Quote
Nigel Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Round socket lower grill left side. Should be a cord in the styrofoam passenger side footwell near the compressor. Quote
MikeT Posted January 10 Posted January 10 The connector in the valence panel is an Amphenol type. If your car is a 2006, it has the block heater fitted to the transaxle. If it's a 2005, there is no block heater (but the connector is there). Quote
