Retired RCAF Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Hi everybody, My name is Mike or Retired RCAF. (because I am) Many familiar names on this forum and some new ones. I must admit to lurking for a couple weeks. Still trying to figure things out. Hope to pick up my Ruby Red Passion Coupe with heated seats and MP3 sound upgrade and bug eyes in the next week or so. This will be our second car as we have a 2002 Mazda P5. Fell in love with the car (Fortwo) over in Germany 6 years ago and couldn't believe my luck when they arrived in Canada. Been studying the car since Sept 05, first ordered in Nov 05 but cancelled due to fear of Dealer monopoly. Local Dealer has been great, so I ordered again in Feb 06. My PO# left Germany about 26 March so I expect my wonderful new ride any day now. It's going to be a fantastic summer to explore and get to know my new Smart here in Winnipeg. The anticipation is almost unbearable. I've already talked to Garry Stearns so the relay is another great thing to look forward to. Hope to see you on the road with a big wave, Retired RCAF Quote
MikeT Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 My late Dad was also ex-RCAF, a Flight Lieutenant. We were posted to France in the early 1960s and the Netherlands from 1969-72. There's no life like it, for better and for worse.... I'm glad to see you here and hope your car arrives soon. Quote
Retired RCAF Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 Mike T, Thank you. Yes I was in Germany from 76 to 80 and then back and forth hundreds of times as aircrew. Enjoyed it very much over there. Even found a girl, from Ottawa, traveling around Europe, till I married her. I've given up on the tracking system but I know one of these days the dealer will call me. RCAF Quote
smart142 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Glad you found the place and hope you enjoy the stay! That smart should be in your possesion real soon and will be worth the wait. Mine has 38,000kms and is a definate keeper. I'm an army brat from Shilo and ended up in London because that was my dad's last posting. We were in Germany from 60-63 but we weren't lucky like you air force types who lived in the south of Germany,oh no,we got to stay in the dingy Ruhr valley. The army always gets the scut jobs and there was no life like it! Try not to drive that smart too much! Quote
Retired RCAF Posted April 24, 2006 Author Posted April 24, 2006 Well, Thank You Smart 142. Yes it's true us Airforce types did have the best over there but you gotta remember we only exist to support you Army guys. There are a lot worse places then the London area to end up in. You could still by around Brandon. "Try not to drive that Smart too much"???? Are you kidding? My wife's gonna think I left her for another. Hope to get it this week. RCAF Quote
smart142 Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Have fun!! And keep us posted with your thoughts on the car. Hey! What's the matter with Brandon? That's where I was born and I used to love those -30 winter days where your nose hairs would freeze. The last time I was out was in 1997 and there was a blizzard in Apr that shut down the Trans Canada for 3 days and the drifts of snow went to the roof line. And how's Winterpeg? Quote
Retired RCAF Posted May 15, 2006 Author Posted May 15, 2006 It is so close now I'm sure I can feel it. Saw the dealer Sat and he checked the CN site. My 4/2 is scheduled to arrive Winnipeg 07:00 Hrs Monday. It's really happening!!! With lots of luck the dealer will have it Mon. night and I will have it Tues night. I know this is extremely optimistic. More likely I'll get it Thurs but I can hope. Monday morning my Geo Metro is gone, after 14 faithful years. I trust the wife will share the Mazda if I'm nice. Now I have to find a name for the new one. "The Grape" isn't too flattering but I kind of like it. Have to think on that one a bit more I guess. Later, RCAF Quote
Retired RCAF Posted May 27, 2006 Author Posted May 27, 2006 Suppose I can update this thread. Got the car Fri 19 May. Added mud flaps, pipe extensions, blind spot mirrior and side sunvisor. Fixed my first flat at about the 400Km mark. Auto wrecker wanted $30 for a car jack so bought a new 2 ton job at Princess for $24. Can't find suitable floor mats but still looking. Would like something called Pantsavers. The car is a real pleasure to drive. I fun vehicle. Only used Auto I think twice because its more fun to shift myself. "WARNING" Do not sit outside Safeway while the wife shops. I had an almost steady stream of traffic asking about the car. It was kind of amazing. I talked almost continuously for 15 minutes. Next time, I get the hotdog buns. RCAF Quote
