42Kruiser Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Welcome Scott, if I remember correctly we have an exported caper in the house, but I can't remember if it is you or Mrs J. Glad to see you here Quote
Crooks Hideaway Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Scott, Good to have you here. We used to live in Oakville, and spent a lot of time in the Niagra region. Great for wine tasting and walking the dog along the escarpment. Quote
wsjohnstone Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 Yes, the Niagara area is beautiful, but I still call Cape Breton home. Good to hear from everyone. Quote
RoySkyBell Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Hi WSJ, Thanks for posting the picture of the trailer. Maybe you could tell us more about it and how it works for you! Thanks. Quote
wsjohnstone Posted June 16, 2005 Author Posted June 16, 2005 Well guys, I made a simple light steel frame and modified some standard trailer springs and axle assembly to allow for such a light load (ie. 250lbs), the smallest springs I could buy were 1000lbs and therefore too stiff of a ride for a small load. After making some customs springs that will flex with a small load, I mounted the small frame. I then wired the trailer with LED lights to only give a small burden on the cars existing electrical system (ie. the LEDs use only 100mA each, almost nothing). After which I painted and then mounted my 20 cubic ft. car top carrier to the trailer frame, and that`s it, many hours but it looks pretty good. Our first trip was from Niagara to Muskoka (4hrs each way), we traveled at 100-110km/hr with the A/C on setting #1 and of course the trailer behind use (but you could hardly know it was there, other than the jingle of the safety chains) and best of all we got 514km on 19 ltrs! I will post some better pictures in the future, any questions just fire away! Quote
RoySkyBell Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Hoooh, I definitely didn't know that you built it yourself! Well done. So what do you carry in it? Quote
FormerEnthusiast Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 I think you have a good product there with the trailer... You should look into marketting and selling more of these... There's a lotta people out there that wanna pack more then a weekend's worth of luggage when they go on larger trips... Eddie Quote
Bud Colby Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 I could probably get almost everything in my wifes purse into that thing. (God, I hope she doesn't seceretly read this forum) Quote
