Guest SoundSmart Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Hi there! Yes I am a Semi-New Smart owner... as in I've had my Pulse ForTwo since late October '05 (winter driving with a smart is FUN!) but just got told about this site yesterday. Hence the "Semi-New" comment. Anyway, I am a sound technician / audio producer that has a tendancy to drive all over the place for my work and discovered that driving the same Astro Van that you haul equipment with is VERY expensive... lo and behold, I bought a Smart! It has been great fun and at the time I bought it, I was the second person to own one in my area. Now they are popping up all over the place and I hope to organize a local club to get together and talk about everything Smart! But here's the real kicker! I think I may be one of the younger Smart Drivers (if you'll pardon the pun) and I am definately the youngest person to own one in my area (I was born in '82 to give you a hint). But here is my question and what I would like to do; Becuase I am a sound technician and I have a tendancy to spend large sums of money on tech toys, I would like to "upgrade" the sound system in my Smart. I already have the factory upgrade (ie: 2 tweeters / 2 woofers and a frequency switch, but no iPod port as I don't own and iPod... yet) but as always I am not satisfied until I have done some of my own modifications. The only thing that is stopping me is that I can't seem to find the amperage of the alternator (admitedly I haven't tried my hardest yet) and was hopping someone could pass along that information. I would also be VERY interested in speaking to anyone who has already made modifications to the sound system of their smartcar! Oh, and one more little plan of mine; because my car is of the Black Frame / Gunmetal Grey Body Panel variety, I would like to tint the windows black on my smart as well, and any advice would be greatlyappreciated! Thanks! So Hello Smart Car Drivers of Canada! I am glad to be one of you!! Quote
MikeT Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Welcome, and thanks for joining! I'll leave it to others to answer your questons...... Quote
smart142 Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 If you drive to Niagara on Sunday you would have the chance to talk to 100 owners. Look for Basspod who has upgraded his sound in a major way. He's the man to talk to! Would love to see you there. Quote
Speedie Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Greetings - Dang would know a thing or two - his adventures are documented - http://www.clubsmartcar.ca/forums/viewtopi...ghlight=speaker also Relax has a nice iPod set up. I'm getting a tad deaf so the sound upgrade package and the external feed to the stock head unit is about all my ears can appreciate. I do have an XM radio mount in the car though if that is of any interest. Cheers, Cameron Quote
Cait Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I have a friend who lives in Kitchener and he's an "audio technician" too. He just likes the fancy name, but I call him a sound guy. It's kinda funny cause he drives an astro van too...well a safari van, but they're the same really. You might know him, apparently you sound guys all seem to know each other. About all your questions... I certainly can't answer them, but almost everyone who gets a smart modifies it in one way or another. Check out the How to forum for lots of helpful information about modifying these cars. I went on the Niagara Cruise last October and had a blast! If you can make it, you should go with everyone this Sunday! I'd go for sure, but I'm out on the West Coast for the summer! I'm glad you found us! Even if you've had the car for a while first. I wasn't spotted until 6 months after I got the car. Enjoy the site and your car! What's your car's name? Quote
Duck Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Hey Bryan! Welcome aboard! I was born in Picton and lived in Bloomfeild until I was about 1 year old. Then we moved here. It sure is a beautiful area though (not that I remember it from when I lived there... but we go back sometimes to visit family friends!). I've modified my sound system. I, like you, bought the upgraded sound package, but just needed more punch. Here's what I did. The W6 *pounds*. The car is so freekin' airtight, it doesn't seem to take much to get a really nice punch. I'm not much of a handyman, but this install was so easy because the battery is right there in the passenger compartment footwell. I'm sure there are neater ways of running the cables (like Ben's car - his is 10 times better sounding and better looking than what I kludged up!!). See ya around! I too am a (relativley) young owner (born late '81 here)... Cait, Ben, and Ben all have us beat by a fair margin though. Kids these days! Kids and their smart cars. Pssh. What 'er ya gonna do? -Iain Quote
