Do you have any other sites that you log into that save your userid and password configured at work, and if so does it make you log in for them too? Maybe your IT guys made a change to the infrastructure? Quote

smart65 Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 I found the cookie for clubsmartcar on the offending desktop computer and deleted it (the suffix was "ca", by the way). Two other files with the suffix "gif" were left as is. I tried accessing clubsmartcar and found that the id and password boxes were still automatically filled, but the system didn't recognize me (I was not in the list of registered users at the end of the forum's main page). This was the same result as before. I tried clicking on login, but nothing happened. I then restarted the computer, but got similar results afterwards. When I tried to post a message to the feedback forum, I got the login screen with the boxes filled in already, but could not get it to proceed. This message was input from my laptop, which has always worked o/k. When I access clubsmartcar on the desktop computer, forums are all printed in blue, indicating that the system considers that they've been already been seen. Note: both computers are on a LAN sharing the same IP address, if that's any help. Quote
smart65 Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Firefox I tried using Interner Explorer and it worked fine. When I used Firefox I was presented with the logon screen, but clicking on submit/enter got me an hourglass, but the screen just stayed there. Curiously, both browsers work fine on the laptop. As a test, while composing this message, I accessed clubsmartcar using IE and was presented with what appeared to be exactly the same information as I saw before I clicked on "post reply" under Firefox; Smart65 was listed as a registered active user. I was logged on through IE and Firefox at the same time. It could even get more complicated if I did the same thing at the same time on the desktop computer. I'd be logged on 4 times with the same id and IP address on two different computers and each computer would have its own cookies being accessed and updated by both browsers. What do the site control programs make of that situation? Interactive communications can sure get complicated! Quote
TFM Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 I multi login all the time. It's perfectly fine. The only thing the cookie does is set your username and password. There are no pointers that need to be kept. That's all handled by the server and DB's. On firefox make sure you click on tools-> options and then the cookies tab. View cookies and remove all cookies that have clubsmartcar in them. That should fix it. IE and FF both have their own cookies that must be removed... Did you know phpBB3 has a built in cookie remover. gods I can't wait... Quote
smart65 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I never did get the desktop computer to work with clubsmartcar right when using Firefox. I deleted the cookie as suggested, but it didn't help. There was only one cookie that had clubsmartcar in its name, but IE continued to work as I was accustomed to seeing it until recently. Then the same thing happened as with Firefox. Today, I used my laptop to access the site as normal, but around 8:15pm EDST when I entered the site, the subject lines were blue, as though I had looked at all of them. I had to click on LOGIN in the upper right hand corner of the main page in order to be recognized (the userid and password were already filled in, presumably from the cookie). Interestingly, the system had my id in the list of registered users active before I clicked LOGIN. Are there any system changes in progress that would explain this behaviour? EDIT: Just noticed - All subject lines in the forum index except one are blue, but when a forum is selected, there are red and blue subject lines as expected. Quote
TFM Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Make sure your only using the URL that matches the cookies. ie, make sure you use clubsmartcar.ca and not .com and make sure all cookies match the .ca. This will all be fixed in the next update. Quote
