darren Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 I've been meeting more and more people from the forum in person, and found it kinda weird to say, "Hi, i'm darren... 'gotsmart' on the fourm," so i decided to ditch the 'gotsmart' moniker and go with something more simple and "real". :)So here i am (again). And now i don't really have to sign my post like this:darren. danno Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Wouldn't it have been simpler to just change your legal name to "gotsmart"? Quote

smart142 Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Hi Darren!! It's me smart142!!! A pleasure meeting you the other day. I've considered doing the same but then I'd probably confuse myself and others Quote
MikeT Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 That's why I'm Mike T here, and use my full name on a couple of Peugeot forums. Quote
ValgardForkbeard Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Welcome aboard Darren :-)Valgard is not my legal name, but I use it often enough that I will answer to it, and I have some friends who remember it better than my real name.Maxwell G. Quote

Duck Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 gotsmart: Nasty, tinny-sounding nickname darren: Good ol' woody-sounding nickname cariBOO on the lAWn. Okay, I thought spinner's comment was weird, now I am just lost!I always sign my name in my posts because yeah - in real life, people come up and they're like "Hi I'm GogoElefffantCranberry23985239893u29u" and you're like "....Okay, I have no idea who you are." It's much easier to get a "feel" for who people are on a forum if you at least know their name, and what they look like! I feel bad half the time at the meets when people come up and introduce themselves, and I'm like "....oh, you're... yeah! I think I remember seeing your posts" (when really I have no idea who they are). Aaaaaaanyway, welcome Darren, and happy 1th Anniversary too, btw -Iain Quote

Albertaaw Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Hi Darren,I understand what you mean which is why I used my real first name and initials of other names which is generally what I've done or in some combination thereof for any user ID. But, I do enjoy seeing all the interesting names that people have come up with for their user IDs. However, I also like to know real names for people, too, for occasions on meeting in person. Seeing the different names for the cars is also fascinating. Keep it going!Alberta Quote
