RoadHound Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Could someone help me?. I need the measurments for the polen filter because I am working on a mod filter that you could buy and install for about $ 35.00. And you can buy the parts in the town you live in. Thank youadn I will be taking photos on how to do it. Quote
Duck Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Can you buy this filter afterword BTW? Mine doesn't have it, and my interior is so dusty.-Iain Quote
MikeT Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Yes, and they cost about $35 in Germany Maybe I should bring a load back in a year, when I'm there next time. Quote
RoadHound Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 You can but it for about $75 from the dealier. I know the measurments are here some where but I can not remember where. Quote
RichHelms Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 All smarts support the polen filter. If you didn't order one with the car the slot is just empty. You access the polen filter from the passenger side access door up front. The washer filler actually connects to the front door of the box.I have never changed one without taking off the front but I understand it can be done. As I recall there are 3 clips holding the cover on Quote
RoadHound Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 My loveley wife saved me and pointed out where the measurments were. So I hope to have this done this afternoon. Quote
bilgladstone Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Changed mine through the outside vent. It's a little fiddley - skinned my knockles pretty good - but now I've learned how, it'll be pretty easy to do it again. B:sun: Quote
leejor Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 I just opened up the access panel and cut a couple pieces of filter material ( the polyester kind with sort of sticky stuff on one side to trap the fine particles) and jambed them in there. That was almost 2 years ago. I'll open it up this summer and replace them. I figured that it was better than nothing, I don't really need a pollen filter. I do recall seeing the dimensions of the filters somewhere on this forum. I just reached in and did a rough measurement before cutting the filters. Quote
Duck Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Where can you get something like that material? Would just a block of foam work, too?-Iain Quote
MikeT Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Mike - are you offering? -IainYeah, they're light. Got a year? Quote
RoadHound Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 The filters I found are from Honda. They are the right height but just a little to long and about 1 1/8 thick. Quote
RoadHound Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 Here is the part number for the filter from Honda 80291-ST3-515. Here is what it looks like this[/img] I had to trim a little off the end but not much. Then installed the filter. I hope this helps anyone.( I hope this turns out right it looks backwards.) Quote

RoadHound Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 The price for me in Ontario was $ 34.96 plus tax. Quote
RoadHound Posted April 14, 2007 Author Posted April 14, 2007 does anyone need more info on this? or was this enough? Quote
bilgladstone Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Ok, here's the basic configuration - top view shown in the image. You must be sure not to block the incoming air flow - can't just stick it in "any old how". The filter has to go in at an angle and fit pretty nicely against the retaining stops.HTHBil Quote
RoadHound Posted April 15, 2007 Author Posted April 15, 2007 Thanks for the added info. I should have mentioned that it went in at an angle. Quote
leejor Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 We order big rolls of filter material for work and cut it to size. There is always a bit left over at the end of the roll. We get it from Camfil. They have offices in the Vancouver area, Concord ON and Laval, QC. I don't know if they sell small amounts, but is pretty inexpensive if you needed some to make up furnace filters etc. Quote

Stock filter is 198 x 203 x 41 mm, so pretty close. Hope this helps some trying to find cheaper solutions. Speedie Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Add NAPA 4877 to the list $20 and change - needs a trim and I ran a hunk of duct tape around it an folded it over so it seals better. The difference between the MB offical smart one and the after markets is the MB one is a denser filter (lets less crud through) and has activated charcoal in it - thicker too - hence the higher price for the replacement. If you are just after basic dust protection - the NAPA one will do.My old filter wasn't that dusty - blew it out with some air - not much dust at all - so might throw it back in after the summer dusty season. With the charcoal - they will look dirty from new.Not to hard to get at - follow the instructions for the wipers and such.Cheers,Cameron Quote
