OklahomaSmart Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 What are the differences between the X-Gauge & the Scangauge??Are these 2 devices about the same apart from their mounting location? What is a feature that one has that the other does not?Any other opinions about these? Quote
bilgladstone Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 SGII :: List @ $199 CAD - larger font in display - variety of display colours - can mount in variety of locations - trip/tank reports - portable from smart to other vehicles makes/models X-Gauge :: List @ $327.35 CAD (dep. exchange rate v Euros) - more simultaneous display parameters (7 vs 4) plus highlight one you choose - several display modes incl text and graphic - programming is marque-specific to smart cars - free mfgr firmware updates (pay only postage) - mounting integrated in clock pod makes it less target for thieves - day/night dimming with oem dimmer switch - now displays and clears active AND pending trouble codes + see params comparison in PDF Also see MDC Bordcomputer: CLICKETY-CLICK :: List @ $399 CAD Regards, Bil X_G.v.SG.pdf Quote
ARTZ Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 I just really like the mounting location of the X-gauge. It is nice and clean installation. Bil made a good point that it is less likely to get stolen because it is attached to the car and thieves may not notice it. Also, the X-gauge can only be used in the CDI smarts and (I am assuming) not in the new CDN/US gasoline smarts. But, I am sure that there will be a new one available for the 451 smarts. Quote
Duck Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 The MDC option will let you maintain the look of stock. I chose it over the other two, because it uses proper SI units, smooth, large fonts, and the refresh rate is lightning fast (0.1 s). -Iain Quote
smart142 Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 The SGII is capable of reading and clearing check engine lights. It can also be mounted in a place of the owners choosing and can be disconnected the same way as a phone jack. Quote
smartzuuk Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 There are some very lengthy discussions here, and probably Bil knows where the X-Guage discussion is. Quote
rwelte Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 I chose it over the other two, because it uses proper SI units@Duck: Are you implying that the X-Gauge does not use proper SI units?Since we are on the subject of comparing the various computers here, let me add a comparison that I have put together a while ago between the MDC-Bordcomputer and the X-Gauge. I just updated it and translated it into English. I've tried to be as objective as possible but I'm always open for suggestions.X-Gauge versus MDC-BordcomputerMuch of the information that the MDC unit displays is already available through the original LCD display which, of course, has to be that way since the original display can be replaced with the MDC unit (installation nightmare?).Before somebody suggests that the newest version of the MDC-Bordcomputer is also capable of displaying oil pressure, oil temperature and inside temperature, he also needs to tell that the price for all additional parts (adapters, sensors, etc.) that are required for displaying these new parameters is EUR 266.00 on top of the base MDC unit (source: MisterDotCom website, June-05-2007). For oil pressure and oil temperature, wires must also be run to the sensors in the engine bay (as has been required for displaying intake pressure).Best Regards,Roland Quote
SCHMART Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 i found out that i can't use x gauge or the scan gauge on a g&k conversion....bummer Quote
rwelte Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 i can't use x gauge or the scan gauge on a g&k conversionWhen a fortwo enters the G&K conversion process, the X-Gauge is compatible with the car's OBD communications. But when that fortwo has been converted, the X-Gauge won't work with it anymore because its ECU firmware got modified in some way. G&K refuses to let us in on the details of their ECU modification as far as OBD diagnostics are concerned. Even though OBD access should not be considered to be a trade secret. It's really frustrating.Regards,Roland Quote
SCHMART Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I wonder if my ecu was sent to smartarse or Germany for a remap if it would then work? Quote
rwelte Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 I wonder if my ecu was sent to smartarse or Germany for a remap if it would then work?It will work if your ECU is going to function the same again as before its modifications. A remap alone, however, will most likely not do it. I would think that the entire firmware of the ECU would have to be replaced with the original one. This is under the assumption that no hardware changes were made in the conversion process. Otherwise these would have to be considered also. Needless to mention that any change would make the car non-conformant with US regulations.Regards,Roland Quote
OklahomaSmart Posted June 13, 2007 Author Posted June 13, 2007 I decided on the X-Gauge.Bought it today. Thanks for the tips guys. Quote
