The Rog Man Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 I have been wanting to put something on the sides of my smart just to break up the side view.Nothing really loud but something none the less. The problem is my creativity gene must be sound asleep, does anyone have any ideas??Even just some pinstriping but it would have to be not of the norm Any creative types out there with ideas, or has anyone seen any smarts with pinstriping??? I have been looking but haven't seen anything around Edmonton where i reside.. Quote
MikeT Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 Strobe striping. It was all the rage in the 1970s! Quote
The Rog Man Posted June 24, 2007 Author Posted June 24, 2007 Strobe striping. It was all the rage in the 1970s!That sounds a bit too loud for me, i think i'll stick with regular pinstriping, just a matter of what too do??? Quote
Sketch Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 I had graphics on my smart car for about 2 years. Recently, I took the graphics off and now I have my silver smart again. I like having the original paint again, but I'm leaning to getting some more graphics on the tridion for accent. I'm thinking something like a diamond plate or carbon fibre. Quote

Do they have lots stuff on display to give some one ideas? Quote
rrrucke Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Last week while driving in Jersey with by BF, we saw a white mustang completely pin-striped with a large NY Yankee logo on the door panels. It looked pretty gaudy but the right application could be nice.I like what smartboy did with his red coupe (I think it was him but if not, I know someone on here will correct me). He has two fat white/yellow or orange stripes running continuously from the front grill, over the top of the hood and across the roof then back down the rear bumper. Very sweet looking. Not pin-stripping but it really looks cool.Good luck on whatever you decide to do.Regina Quote
ajprice Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 The Rog Man, post up some photos of your Smart and let the photoshoppers here try some things out for you.. Quote
Mr. Mopar Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Strobe striping. It was all the rage in the 1970s!I'm with Mike! In fact, I've just been hit with some inspiration! A strobe stripe across the top of the Tridion like on a classic Road Runner! Man, an entire Road Runner-themed smart! I'm off to do some sketches : Pajprice is right, post a pic up; I've only got MS Paint, but I'll give it a shot! : P Quote
Mr. Mopar Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Alright, ix-nay on the Road Runner roof-strobe stripe : P Not as spectacular as I thought... Quote
ajprice Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 OK I went to the Smart configurator and made a black and silver fortwo, because thats what it looks like you have in your avatar. Here's a couple of ideas, strobe stripes like on the renault above, and stripes like what will be an option on the 451 model ForTwo (I put 42 in there for "ForTwo" ). Also, this is a link to the German Auto Bild magazine, for their anniversary they released 20 different special editions of the ForTwo, all different. There's a lot of ideas there for simple graphics and colour combinations - Link Quote
ValgardForkbeard Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Not into photoshop, but what about doing the Love Bug , but with a 42 instead of 53? MG Quote
MikeT Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 If doing the R-5 type strobes, continue them in white around the black part of the tridion! Quote
The Rog Man Posted June 25, 2007 Author Posted June 25, 2007 The strobe effect just doesn't do it for me but i do appreciate all the suggestions, As for posting a pic i don't have anything recent but i can post a side view since that is what i want to change. Quote
Mister_2 Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Start a business and then you can put your company logo on your car haha Quote
The Rog Man Posted June 27, 2007 Author Posted June 27, 2007 Start a business and then you can put your company logo on your car hahaBinn there dunn that, i hated being self employed But thanks for the idea Quote
Mister_2 Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Haha anytime! I wouldn't actually suggest starting a business just for the logos on your car though ;)But personally I love being self employed, best thing I ever did but to each their own.I suggest doing something with the color scheme rather than going for decals or pinstriping. I would like to change the tail light covers , the moulding strips around the back corner windows and the piece accross the top that holds the high mount brake lite all to silver for starters but i didn't really want to paint them myself , finding new /used mouldings would be the preferref way to go?.I just want the car more silver and less black. The Rog Man Posted June 28, 2007 Author Posted June 28, 2007 Hi Roger, Have a look at Geniza's "Celtic detailing" here I LIKE it! B:sun: WOW !!! I thought it was quite subtle until i got the side profile......WOW !!!!!! Quote
Cait Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 I think that whatever details you put on your car shold be something that you decide upon yourself so the design is special to you.but definitely make use of the photoshoppers who can put into visual form what you've got in your mind! one of the members here made my picture for me.... one day eventually i'll get that put on my car! Duck Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 I had no idea that was called strobe striping - that's exactly how I just painted my new G1A! The logo for the company I worked at previously had that, we painted it along the long horizontal axis (they were high performance prismatic/carteisan robots). -Iain Quote
2seatragtop Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Is that what it's called. We did that in Blue to our 34 ft White Glider trailer in the 70's. We worked from a parked Renault 5 and scaled the effect. It looked pretty sharp when we were finished and we never saw another like it. We also had an offset fin rather than a centre one just to show we could! We wanted to be different! The best view I ever had of the effect was in the rear view mirror of a Volvo 122 tow car going over the Forth Road bridge. The cross wind was so great we could see the whole pattern in one mirror and we couldn't even see the trailer in the other. We needed two lanes to cross, one for the car and the other for the skewed trailer end! Go for the strobe effect! Quote
