  1. Does anyone know where I can get some Oil Pan Drain Plugs Retrofit to retrofit my smart car .. tired of the over expensive oil changes. There is a local shop here that I have used for years on my other cars (PetroCanada) and they are servicing a few smarts with the mods. ... they are interested in doing more .. including my car .. if they can get the retro fits ...ThanksMEL
  2. Sorry .. will be missing this one ... something about being in LA for a few days ... I know ... pretty rough ...
  3. I had my passenger head light - low beam - burn out the other week... two days before my first B service ... much to my surprise it was covered under warranty ... and Weber Motors replaced Both headlights ...
  4. Due to the work I do .. on site service office systems where my car may sit for and hour + at a time ... the best solution that I have found when the temp dips below -15'C is to park the thing and start up the van ... pretty soon we won't have to worry about all of this cold as I am told Global Warming is coming
  5. I may actually make this one .. lol ... nothing actually on my calendar that day ... I'll put it down MEL

  7. Your are absolutely right regarding using cruise control in conditions where you can get into trouble... including icy conditions ... not always a 'smart' thing to do ... An inexperienced driver can over or under react to the situation to make it worst. Keeping calm and cool and understanding how to react is key .. which comes with experience. I knew instictively to get cruise off .. which is why I tapped the brake and not try and fumble with cruise arm to disengage ... and only tap the brake .. not to slam on brakes .. and then let the Smart and my steering ride things out until things were back into control ... no time to really think about what to do .. just time to react accordingly ... all was good and safe ... thanks !
  8. So coming back from Sask on Monday (yesterday) and weather from Saskatoon to Llyod was clear but very windy with snow blowing across highway which caused very icy conditions in areas. The Smart was on cruise and handling well .. set at 110km .. no issues until about 5 min out a Lashburn, Sask .. a big gust of wind pushed the Smart half into the RH lane and I started to skid out of control. As soon as I felt it skid I tapped my brake to take cruise off and even before then I felt the traction control kick in and the car gear down a bit .. a couple of slick steering moves and the Smart and I got things back on track ... what a rush ! I was extremely impressed and how this little car handled in this situation. I can say with 100% assurance that if I was in my other car or van I would have been in the ditch for sure. ( and I seen a few in the ditch that yesterday too ) The Smart's traction control made the difference ! Whatever my next car purchase is .. it will have traction/stabilty control !!! MEL
  9. Alain...yes ... about 2 1/2 weeks after notification ... I was a couple weeks late sending my form in once it was released on the gov. website .. once it was fileld in and sent I basically did not worry about it .. figured the check would come whenever it came. It did and I happily cashed it !If the check comes when you are gone ..it;ll be a nice surprise when you get back .. the check should not go stale ...
  10. got my check last week ... cashed it already ...
  11. Hey Rog Man .. looks good and simple to do ... my smart has been sitting since weather got cold but I am doing a trip out to Sask on Fri and looking to take the smart ... I will be planning a simple mod like this before I go ..... hey .. is that a painted Black Grill you are now sporting ??? Looks real good !
  12. When the first snow fall hit and I had the smart out for my normal day to day activities, I was highly impressed. With then normal snow tires it handled impressively well. The ESC kicked in when needed and I could stop and turn without any problems at all. Now the temperature is another factor that I am learning to deal with. The Smart is parked in a garage, not plugged in. No problem starting it. After a min or so, I pull it on the drive and let it run for about 5 mins or so, revs at 2500 to try and get some heat going before I take off. Some heat will start getting warm about 5-10 min into the drive. The car is good for heat once it is warmed and you are driving it for a period of time. In my line of work, the car could be parked for an hour or more at a time as I do service work. I don't have time, nor patience, to sit in an ice box waiting for the smart to warm back up. I don't like to drive and see my breath. I car seat heater would have been a nice option but I don't have one and still trying to find a comfortable 12V seat cushion heat pad.So my solution right now is having it parked in the garage and I am back to driving my van ... with the remote started ... making it nice and toasty warm before I even get in to it. I am looking at the various car warmers and checking to see if I can get a remote 12V starter for one. I think Princess Auto sells an remote that will allow to start/control up to 4 different 12 V items. If I am going to drive the SMART in this cold Alberta winter, it has to be comfortable which means warm.If anyone else has other recommendations ...let me know.
  13. Received my rebate confirmation of processing ... looks like it'll be here in plenty of time to pay for my trip to LA in Feb.08
