Curious, trying to come and get my sweetie to work later in the morning. Are we part of a parade or are we just parking there for people to see. Would it help if I wear one of these streamlined cycle helmets while driving the smart at 100 km/hr (with the window open) OK, I capice. So what happens if we increase the power output by 25%-30%, this will change the torgue range, correct ??? On my mileage I am doing well, I admit that, my driving largely consists out of driving from Surrey to Chilliwack and back (every day) my worst has been just under 6.0 and my best has been 4.04 L/100 I am known as that flash that flies in that little car between Chilliwack and Surrey, getting many odd looks when I pass people at 125km/hr. Ben

I just wonder about the 83km/hr, I think that could be better in some regard, whatever that is. Having said that, I am rather happy getting 4.5L/100 doing 120km/hr and zipping along just fine while looking at the others doing the same speed and getting over 12 most times. Any one have any experience with the Tuningbox or DigiCR ????

I have been part of this smart revolution for a few weeks now and am loving it. I have also a mind like most others who think that if we can do this maybe we can do that, this leads me to the question that I have and I think this is the right forum for that. I love the stories that Eddie wrote and the contributions that Keith is making to all of this, this gives me some basic information on fuel top efficiency, one of the pieces of info that has been coming out is that if you drive at 83KM/hour you are doing well. This leaves me asking the next few questions or thoughts. 1. Normally when a car is assembled and engineered one would go with a number of driving conditions that make of some of the basic bits of info in how things work, one of these is that efficiency is targeted to be around 100km/h based on that fact that this is your standard highway speed, this leaves me to wonder the following. 2. Is the gearing in the smart done efficiently for driving highway conditions understanding that the smart really is based around a city commuter car? 3. If the car would be more efficient by a differently geared 6th gear and the cruising speed could be 100 we would be increasing driving comfort and efficiency, I think this statement makes sense. 4. If we make use of the Tuning products like TuningBOx or DigiCR which increase power output by a claimed 25-30% but we do not use this for increased performance but instead allow the car to be more efficient could we increase out mileage more yet even when not considering a different ratio of 6th gear. All these things are only as relevant as the scope of cost in fuel, realizing we are already do well I wonder about spending tons of cash to do better when the savings are not there, but it would be interesting to see what would happen. Any comments welcome from anyone, I love the Eddie report and love the 800 KM drive, I just wonder if we can do better if we had a more efficient setup. Ben

yes, very nice looking. One thing that I think car maker's are trying to do is to streamline and make cars look very very nice. The risk they all run is getting the car to be looking good but loose the instant recognition factor, like that of the smart. The look of the smart is one of the main factors on why it is so popular. Everyone knows about the look and more important..........REMEMBERS the look.
