  1. Any idea what shipping would be to Vancouver Island (Ladysmith)?Javatrek
  2. The parts required for the basic roof rack are: 4- Q-towers, 4- Q-116 clips, 2 cross bars ( 48" or 120 CM ). The bike rack in the picture a the top of this topic is a Yakima Sidewinder (tandem specific).
  3. About $400.00 if you have to start from scratch ( I already had the Q-towers and crossbars, just needed to change the Q-clips) + the specific rack you need. If this is for a bike get one with the fork clamp instead of the frame clamp. I have both and the frame clamp allows the front end of the bike to flutter somewhat in the tray causing a very noticeable vibration in the smart. I just did 100 KM with our tandem on the roof with a fork clamp rack and we could not tell it was there (except for the wind noise).
  4. We add our " THANKS" as well for a job well done by Cameron and Gerri ( and Gerri's mum for a fabulous cake...) sure wish we hadn't rushed for the ferry...( living on Gabriola island for 7 1/2 years made me paranoid about ferries...)Judy and Louis
  5. Probably just a titch over 8" (my saddle is 39" from the ground). If your concern is the overheight ferry charge, have no fear: in less than 2 minutes the bike can be laying across the roof for the crossing and back up in 2 minutes again!
  6. Here is a pic of my two babies....Yakima head office tells me that this set-up will work on the 451 (it obviously works on the 450)Javatrek
  7. I got this information (Q-towers and Q-clips 116) direct from Yakima in Washington state....
  8. Yakima roof rack fits great! I drove my race bike 160KM (100 miles) at 130KPH (80 MPH) with no problems ( smart is more sensitive to cross winds) can't wait to put my tandem up on the roof! Yakima Q-towers with q-clips 116Javatrek
  9. Yes Deezle, the 9:30 sounds good to us.Javatrek
  10. Hi guys! My partner and I would like to go if the famous spot #5 is still available....lol. We'll be coming from Ladysmith, maybe we can fill up the ferry with smarts?See you there!Javatrek
  11. I wouldn't mind meeting a few smart owners from the area, maybe I could get some pointers...1. For22. Mike T3. Snow_Dogs4. Javatrek5.
  12. Have you thought of putting a backing plate on the "chicken head" that would cover the extra hole(s)?Javatrek
  13. Just heard from Yakima today that they have tested a roof rack for our babies: Q-towers with Q-116 clips. Load is limited and they give a warning that it may affect the handling.....I'll send a photo of our tandem bike on top our smart as soon as possible.Cheers!
  14. Hello to all the chosen ones!I just adopted a used 2005 pure, what a delight! I probably have to adjust my driving habits (130 kph is not the way to get the best fuel economy).Every time I look out the window, I get a HUGE smile on my face.... I'm a little surprised since I used to own a BMW Z3 and I think I get a bigger blast out of this puppy. Speaking of which...my Doberman fits just fine!I have a question I would like to throw out in the arena: Can I drill and screw in the Tridion frame to install a roof rack. I would love to put my tandem bike on the roof of my baby...It would make a statement! Can anyone help me?Thanks,Javatrek
