Electric heater

Hi everyone

Just preparing for the cold weather and noticed when l slide the heater lever all the to the right to turn on the auxillary heater it lights up for a few seconds then the light goes off. 

Not sure if the heater is kaput or something else. Any help greatly appreciated.

The control cable needs to be adjusted...guide found here...https://www.evilution.co.uk/index.php?menu=interior&mod=1061

When adjusted correctly the aux heater will stay on.

At last one of my cars behaves the same and I have often wondered if there is more to the story.

 

The resistive heater is apparently computer controlled. Please read the second last post.

Electric heater is controlled by glow plug controller. Switches on only when coolant temperature is below 8 C. Switches off automatically when coolant temperature goes above 80 C. 

Hot/cold temperature control lever when moved all the way to the right operates a microswitch.  Sometimes the outer casing on control cable needs adjustment for switch to operate correctly. Light in instrument panel stays on constantly when lever is moved all the way to the right.

Tolson's description does not agree with how the system worked in my 2005 cdi.  The booster would function with coolant temps over 70 C.

Electric heater turns off when coolant reaches 80 C, not 60 C which I mistyped above.

Thank you for all your replies. It seemed to have fixed itself. Perhaps the outside temp was the issue? Either way the light stays on when activated whether there is any heat l cannot say. If it does work l cant feel it.
